Tromsø Gren Activities & Friends - Member Missionary Work

Saints read-a-thon!   Members of the Tromsø Gren participated in the world wide read-a-thon of the Saints in preparation for the Face2Face event with Elder Cook (Kate Holbrook & Matt Grow) by reading the newly-released book Saints: The Story of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We participated one week later so we could watch the fireside which was broadcast early Monday morning at 2am in Norway.

We had access to all of Vol 1 in English on our tablets...but only the 1st 7 chapters had been translated into Norwegian and available in the Liahona & Norwegian language Gospel Library app at this time.  We gathered on a Friday Night and Saturday Evening. We read as much of the book as we could together and discussed our impressions, as well as had snacks and a lot of fun.

One of our bitter-sweet moments of our mission is enjoying

                       TRANSFER BREAKFASTS

with the young Missionaries in our apartment.   Sweet because we get to be with those whom we have learned to love such a short time period....but bitter in that we find out that some will be transferred to labor in other parts of Norway.  (this one no one in our District was affected - very rare!) ...

Everyone likes to play ping-pong.  We set the table up in the chapel room.  Elder Miller who is an artist made and painted the table.  On one side is a drawing of the Plan of Salvation...on the other a Norwegian folk painting.

Can you find the troll in this painting?

One of our highlights was meeting with Leneia from Alta.  She is the wife of Kristian who was a bachelor when Dad first served in Norway in Alta/Hammerfest.  It was so nice to finally meet her.  The missionaries still live in the same home with the family in Alta that Dad lived in 46 years ago.

Missionaries love when they are invited to a member's home for dinner, we had many opportunities in Kristiansand but with most members single in Tromsø not as many which makes them all the more special.  Juvy invited us to her home this evening after church for a lovely dinner and opportunity to meet her partner who is not a member.  Juvy is from the Phillipines islands but has lived and worked in Norway for many years now as a nurse.
