Kvaløya - Sommarøy

Sommarøy is an old fishing village in the western part of Tromsø Municipality in Troms county, Norway
It is located about 36 kilometres (22 mi) west of the city of Tromsø and is a popular tourist destination due to its white sand beaches and scenery. The village has a population of about 300.
The fishing village of Sommarøy covers the island of Store Sommarøya as well as part of the neighboring island of Hillesøya and many smaller surrounding islands. The village is a typical fishing village with great local fishing fleets and substantial fish processing and other industries. Tourism is also important in Sommarøy. There is a hotel and rental cabins available.

Sister Stocks overlooking Elders Putt & Aland who had quickly hiked down to the water from on top where we parked the car at a overlook

The weather this day was really fickle - one moment sunshine the next cloudy looking like it wanted to rain.  We are finding out that this is typical in Tromsø

looks like the old Prudential rock used in advertisements too long ago to mention

Even we hiked down the cliffside to get next to the fjord

The water was so clear you could see the bottom for quite a ways off shore

picturesque bridge that leads to Sommarøy.  It is only wide enough for one lane of traffic so even though there isn't much traffic you learn a valuable life lesson that you need to take turns.  If you do everyone can enjoy life.

that's a jellyfish on the sand everyone is gathered around

Elder Putt getting the perfect picture as we crossed the bridge on way home from Sommarøy.  Because it's a one way bridge you can't stop long enough to get the perfect picture of the small little islands that dot the fjords waterways, that make it so picturesque.

another sandy beach near Grøtfjord  also on the west side of Kvaløya

lots of crystalline rocks inbedded in the coastal rocks along the beaches.

beautiful clouds with the sun shining on them

Northern Norway's rocky coastal islands are absolutely beautiful

when the sun pops out the various colors of the fjord and sea really stand out.
