July 4th Celebrations in Norway

The 4th of July is a time for hot dogs, donning red, white and blue, and for fireworks. We love being in Norway but we also miss American at times... the 4th is also a time to stop and reflect on the wonderful country we call America - we need to learn to appreciate it "from sea to shining sea".  It is a time to remember the founding principles that the country was built on. A time to remember the courage our founding fathers displayed. And a time to appreciate the wonderful gift of freedom that we all enjoy on a daily basis.

We didn't have a normal 4th but we tried to give the Norwegians a little taste of the 4th with a picnic with our YSA on July 6th.

ready to start bbq with a little portable grill we had at the YSA center . - found our later there was a fire warning due to how dry the summer has been and we shouldn't have been able to grill...we watered the blanket below to make sure we were safer

BBQ Hamburgers & Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Watermelon, Jello, chips & soda...and of course Apple pie were enjoyed by all.

Had a young man (Evan) from Idaho in town on a 4H exchange for a few weeks who joined us.

two local young kids wanted to get in on the fun of our celebrations...they came around to squirt us with their water guns...it was really refreshing in the warm weather.
