Trip to Tromsø - Bardufoss

Our journey began in Tromsø - we travelled to Bardufoss on Monday, visited with members in a FHE at the church in Tromsø and then set off driving on Tuesday morning to the islands.  The pictures may be a little jumbled in sequence due to late downloading to the computer but you should get a good feel of our experience.

the storm clouds made the weather look ominous but it really wasn't.  A little chilly with the wind is all

Bentsjord Kirke

they said this is called a rain bird - not sure of the exact name but it supposed appears when it's going to rain.  There were lots of them and we thought they were pretty.

Cod hanging on the side of the home.  Fishing is a big time industry in the North

Norwegian Fjord horses.  Smaller almost pony size but strong and built to work

Fossmotunet - Midt Troms Museum

old cabins and a statue of the woman who was the first school teacher in the community now made into a little museum

We travelled with the Bergquist couple - they are from Weezer Idaho and are serving as YSA couple in Oslo.  Elder Bergquist served in Norway the same time as Dad just one year ahead.  They also met at Ricks College while he was teaching at the LTM.

lodge just outside of Måelvfoss

Norway has very unique fences

Bardufoss - foss is waterfall in Norwegian.  These falls are located by a military base south of Tromsø - Elder Bergquist was assigned to the base for a month as part of the Idaho National guard many years ago.

small old churches in every little community dot the countryside

land of waterfalls - there must have been 100 of them throughout our trip some large, some small, all lending to the beauty of the island
