Senior Missionary Conference - Oslo 2017













We spent three wonderful days in Oslo recently with all of the Senior Couple Missionaries serving in Norway.   What a blessing in our life to get to meet and get to know these wonderful couples who serve with us in Norway.  We are amazed at the talented people the Lord has prepared to serve the Norwegian people.  Our hearts are overwhelmed with love for them and the younger missionaries who are serving.  We were fed spiritually and emotionally by their examples and the opportunity to feel the spirit as we were taught about our responsibilities and the love of our Saviour.

The sisters are always found trying to keep us physically fed while we are being spiritually fed.  They are amazing beautiful daughters of God.  Their hearts are so full of love and service.

Elder & Sister Jenson are serving in Bergen - He served in Norway in late 60's

Elder & Sister Robinson - Serve in the Mission Office - Amazing couple - he served his mission in Japan.  They don't speak Norwegian but they keep the office and mission humming in ship shape

Elder Miller has a real talent for art.  He can add some beauty to a car that is filthy from traveling across the country with the storms this time of year.

Elder & Sister Brown - serving in Trondheim - He served in Norway in 1959-60.  This is their 4th mission for the church as a couple.

President & Sister Hill - what an inspired and loving couple.  An inspiration to work with President Hill as companions in 1970-1972 and today as he serves as the Mission President 

dinner time where we could relax and get better acquainted with one another.  It was fun to relive some old stories of missionary days while serving as younger missionaries.  We were joined by President & Sister Pedersen of the Drammen Stake Presidency for Dinner and then eloquently taught by them that evening.  What an amazing couple.

can't remember who these guys are - I think they may have just been crashing the party :-) - think they said they are serving in Kristiansand. I think he served in Norway previously in 1970.

Gormley's were so kind to make a missionary cookbook that they have used while serving.  They will be leaving to go home in December

Lots of good instruction on mission goals, objectives.  Lots of idea sharing with others on how we can magnify our callings.

President Pedersen & wife (on left) joined us for a spiritual evening as they told us of their family and conversions -  encouraged us to stretch ourselves in our callings and promised we would feel the loving arms of the Savior as we serve the Norwegian people - gathered in the kitchen before heading back to the hotel for the evening.

P-Day Hikes - Kvaløya - Kattfjordeidet

Most P-days the younger missionaries love to get out and hike.   We try and keep up and hike with them... Kvaløya   is  Norway's  fifth largest island.  The whole island is located in  Tromsø  municipality.  The largest population centers are: Kvaløysletta ,  Storelva ,  Kaldfjord , Brennholmen  and  Ersfjordbotn , but there are scattered settlements along the coast over almost the entire island.  There is also a population of about 600 Reindeer on the island. Viking Borre Mounds - Horten

Borre mound cemetery  (Norwegian:  Borrehaugene)   We visited these burial grounds at Horten in Vestfold, Norway on our way back to Kristiansand from the zone conference, about a half hour off the main road home.  It is the largest burial mound site in Northern Europe. Borre National Park is home to the most extensive collection of king’s graves in Scandinavia. It is home to seven large and 21 smaller burial mounds. Excavations in the 1980s revealed that the oldest mounds may date to 600 AD, even prior to the Viking Age. They have developed a nice little museum were once there was only the mounds when Dad first served in Norway that give visitors a taste of viking life in that period.  This museum is a smaller scale version of the large one we visited on Lofoten but very nice and we had a personal tour since there were only about 3 families there at the time. Kvaløya - Sommarøy

Sommarøy  is an old  fishing village  in the western part of  Tromsø Municipality  in  Troms  county,  Norway .  It is located about 36 kilometres (22 mi) west of the  city of Tromsø  and is a popular tourist destination due to its white sand beaches and scenery. The village has a population of about 300. The  fishing village  of Sommarøy covers the island of  Store Sommarøya  as well as part of the neighboring island of  Hillesøya  and many smaller surrounding islands. The village is a typical fishing village with great local fishing fleets and substantial fish processing and other industries. Tourism is also important in Sommarøy. There is a hotel and rental cabins available.
