Skien

SKIEN....
Home...who said you can never go home.

Skien Town Square - Showing the famous double spire church in the background. Most of the churches in Norway only have the one spire.
Mom Loves all the old doors as you will see.
The architecture on this church is amazing, we did not get the opportunity to go inside as it was closed this day...oh well another excuse to go back again hopefully
Skien is the home of Henrik Ibsen

We had the opportunity to travel through Skien on our way to Zone Conference in Drammen in September - This is where I spent the first 9 months of my mission in back in the 70's...no not quite the 1870's but I was called by the prophet Joseph Smith to serve back then....Joseph Fielding Smith.

The road to Henrik Ibsen Home and Museum.  This is a two lane road,  the bridge is only slightly narrower than most roads ...one lane at a time can cross.

This is my apartment when I was a young missionary - the two windows top level to the right.  It's red now but used to be yellow.  It also use to be a little out on the edge of town and is now surrounded by all the growth in the city.  Business and homes.  - This is HOME...when I think of Norway.
even has a small store on the bottom left of it that didn't use to be there.

surrounding countryside
view towards town from the location of the LDS Chapel in Skien - it didn't exist when I was here previously.
view along the fjord - used to be a paper mill in this area when I first served.

pictures of Velg Kirke which is a short distance to the north of our old apartment.
Mom likes the old doors.
