Kristiansand Museum - Settlesdal

Our P-days we usually go for a 4 hour walk to discover some of the sights and culture around Kristiansand.  We recently walked to the Kristiansand museum where they highlight some of the older Norwegian traditions.

These cabins date back to the 11-1200's

Most of them have what they call live roofs where the grass is growing on top...helped with insulation in the colder months.

The detail and carvings on some of these is amazing.

Stairs leading up to a small upper level

Typical bed inside.  All the beds are only about 4 feel long.   This saved space in the cabins and the people would always sleep curled up in a ball to maintain the heat so no need for a longer bed.
